After headaches and anxiety/depression Gut related health issues are probably one of the most common things that presents in general practice.

Anything from on going reflux/indigestion issues to cyclical vomiting (actually a variant of migraine) and bloating and gas, loose stools/change in bowel habit/blood in stools, mucus, itchy skin rashes and eczema as well as food intolerances/ sensitivities, chronic abdominal pain and stubborn weight issues  can all be traced back to the gut.

Our gut is an important part of  our immune system and acts as a barrier mechanism truly separating the outside of the body ( substances passing through the digestive tract) from inside the cells of the body. Food is not only in its simplest terms fuel it also provides  medicine and information. The gut has more neurones (information messengers) than the spinal cord. Neurones use electrical and chemical signals to send information between the brain, the spinal cord and the entire body. It is a two way highway of communication. If you have ever had a sense of knowing or ‘gut feeling’ and you ignored it there were probably consequences!

Whilst we have a variety of treatments that help suppress gut symptoms a lifestyle approach to your treatment plan supports the bodies innate ability to self heal.
