DR. DONNA HUTCHINSON

Dr Donna Hutchinson

I qualified in 1996 from the University of Leicester Medical School. I completed GP training in 2001, obtaining the Certificate of prescribed experience in General Practice and later membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners in addition to the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and the Diploma of the Faculty of Family Planning.  I hold a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the University of Nottingham and have training in Lifestyle Medicine and Functional Medicine.

I was a GP partner in a Grantham Practice for twenty years and have worked in a variety of practices across England and across the county and continue to do so within the NHS as a locum GP.   I also work as a private GP at the Fitzwilliam Hospital.  As a Junior Doctor, I had rotations in a number of specialties, including rheumatology, immunology, psychiatry, palliative medicine and gastroenterology, to name but a few!

I have spent my entire career trying to determine what makes people ill and what helps them return to wellness.   Each person's healing journey is entirely personal, and I aim to provide an integrative and personalised approach to medical care honouring that good health comes from healing your immune system, your nutrition, your stress response, and your identity.  This is whole-person medicine.

I am a member of the London College of Medicine and Integrated Health and The British College of Functional Medicine and am affiliated to the Institute of Functional Medicine, through which I continue to undertake training.

If you would like to work with me on your health and mental health  I would love to hear from you.

My Mission

To provide compassionate, high quality evidenced based primary healthcare services that
promote self-healing and wellness for patients in my community.

My Vision

To empower patients with the understanding and knowledge of the root cause of their health issues and provide a personalised ‘prescription’ of interventions that facilitates an individual's return to wellness.

I aim to continue my lifelong love of learning to always be up to date with the advances in medical science that give us a greater understanding of disease and its treatment.

I seek to collaborate and work in partnership to strengthen community links  with my professional colleagues in conventional healthcare and with my Complimentary and Alternative Medicine practitioners

I aim to use technology smartly to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of my administration, patient contact, and clinical activity.

My Values

I am, above all, caring.  I aim to provide the care for you that I would want for myself, my own family, and my friends.

I want you to be in charge of your health.
I want to work with you and help you reach your health goals.

I strive to achieve a high level of patient care for my patients. Honouring the complexity of the mind and body and offering longer appointments to my patients so I can listen and get to the heart of the matter.

I maintain my professional learning and follow the best evidence-based guidelines whenever it is appropriate to do so.

My Philosophy

I have spent 27 years in Healthcare and, like all of us, have at times been a patient myself.

Having been on both sides of the fence, so to speak, I know the value of having a care provider whom I can trust and who actively listens to and acknowledges the things that are important to me. I understand that each one of us is an expert in ourselves. Only we know our lived experience and the perception of our life through the lens from which we view it.

Our health and vitality are a summation of all aspects of our lived experience, and our symptoms are usually a message that something is out of balance.

This could be in any or all of the following domains:  mental, physical, emotional or spiritual. For many people, the concept of spirituality might be a step too far, so in its simplest terms, it can simply refer to our sense of meaning or purpose.

The word Doctor originates from the Latin word for “teacher.”

As a highly experienced medical doctor, I aim to teach people what their symptoms represent. I do this by working with you: gathering information and organizing that information meaningfully. Validating our hypotheses by blood tests or other investigations as necessary, initiating a treatment plan agreed with you, and then tracking your progress. I intend to be of service to support you to get better. There are some illnesses for which there is no cure but healing is always possible.

This is a whole person or systems biology-based approach.
