How Much do Services Cost?

Please see my services page for a breakdown of costs.

Prices start at £120  for a thirty-minute appointment.

Can I still be registered with my NHS GP if I choose to visit a private GP?

Yes.  You must stay registered with your NHS GP.  They hold your electronic NHS medical record and retain overall responsibility for the provision of medical care  for you in line  with the contractual obligations  of the General Medical Services agreed between NHS England, The British Medical Association and the General Practitioners Committee.

Can a private GP see my NHS medical record?

At the present time it is not possible for everyone to access their NHS medical record, although it may be possible for you to see aspects of your electronic healthcare record  using the NHS app or Airmid app.

You may need to request permission from your NHS practice to see your health record.  In due course the aspiration is that all patients will have access to their electronic medical record.

Is There Anything I Should do to Prepare for an Appointment?

Please bring a list of your medications, allergies, and any significant past medical history with you.  If you have had any recent tests undertaken by your GP or had any investigations or appointments with specialists it would be very helpful if you could bring copies of letters or results with you.

Your appointment is an investment in you and I want you to get the most out of our time together

Think about what you most want to get out of the appointment and any questions or concerns you may have.  Often people like to bring someone with them such as a friend, family member or partner. That is fine.

How do I get the results of my NHS tests to bring to my private appointment?

If you have set up your NHS app or Airmid app  you should be able to see your results.  You may have to request permission from  your NHS practice with respect to what information you are able to access.

Alternatively you could  request a copy or your results from the surgery who may be willing to print these off for you.  Please make sure you do this well ahead of our appointment if possible as the reception team will need to have the release of this information authorised by a GP first.

Can a Private GP Refer me to an NHS consultant?

A private GP can only refer to an NHS consultant if your symptoms and signs suggest you fulfill the remit for referral to secondary care on an NHS pathway and the pre-requirement investigations have been carried out.  I cannot recommend that your NHS GP do these on our behalf as they are not subcontracted to Broad Street Practice!

I can refer you to a Private Consultant if necessary, and generally, you can expect to be seen within a short time frame (days to weeks).

Can a Private GP Write an NHS Prescription?

A private GP is not able to provide an NHS prescription.  However, private prescriptions can be very competitively priced and sometimes are cheaper than NHS prescriptions.  Some drugs are quite expensive and in this situation you will be asked to pay the actual cost of the drug (rather than the NHS  pre-set  current prescription charge per item).  Prescription Medical /Maternity Exemption certificates  do not apply to private prescriptions.

Your local pharmacist will charge a small fee for the dispensing of a private prescription to you in addition to the actual cost of the item.

Can I Have Blood Tests or Other Investigations?

If it is necessary to undertake investigations such as blood tests, urine tests or x-rays or ultrasound scans there are individual costs dependent on the nature of the investigation.

A detailed breakdown of the costs will be discussed with you prior to any tests being arranged. I use a number of reputable laboratories and diagnostic imaging screening services.

How do I Get the Results of any Investigations?

You will need to make a follow-up appointment to discuss the results.  You will receive a copy of the results for your own records following our discussion.

Will my NHS GP be Informed of my Visit?

This will be discussed with you at the time of your appointment.  It is good practice to keep your NHS GP informed of matters pertaining to your health.  Ultimately we all want the same for you – to keep you well.   I understand there are certain times or circumstances where this might not be your preference.  Do let me know at your consultation if you have a concern in this regard.

Is my Appointment Covered by my Private Health care Insurer?

Most private general practice services are not covered by  private health care insurance   If a referral to a specialist is deemed necessary that may be covered on your policy.  Please check with your insurers  prior to agreeing any referral or treatment.

Do you See Children?

I am fully trained to see patients from birth however my private GP work does not allow the provision of medical services to patients under the age of 18 years at these premises.

Do you do Travel Vaccinations?

No, I do not offer travel vaccinations

A number of pharmacists in our neighbourhood offer this service.

Do you do home visits?

No, the private GP service at  Broad Street Practice does not offer a home visiting service.  The consulting room is on the ground floor and is wheel chair accessible, and has the necessary equipment, lighting, and configuration to support clinical examination in a medical setting.

Disclaimer: A private GP service is not a substitute or replacement for times when people need immediate or emergency care. Please use the appropriate care provider service (GP/111 in hours or 111/walk-in centre for out-of-hours minor/non-life threatening conditions or 999/AE if a serious accident or life-threatening emergency e.g. chest pain/severe difficulty in breathing, heavy bleeding).
